ePermit – New for 2024
All pets must register and receive an ePermit in order to enter the Bahamas. The Bahamas Agricultural Health and Food Safety Authority (BAHFSA) has also developed conditions of import for cats and dogs wishing to enter the Bahamas.
Conditions for Importation of Cats and Dogs
A. If a country, zone, or compartment free from rabies according to World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) wishes to export:
a. Dogs,
i. an international veterinary certificate (within forty-eight (48) hours of importation) is required and must attest that the dog(s):
- has/have been continuously in the country of export for the
previous six (6) months or, if less than six (6) months of age,
since birth - was actively immunized against the following diseases:
a. Distemper,
b. Hepatitis,
c. Leptospirosis,
d. Parvovirus, and
e. Adenovirus - is/are free of internal parasites as determined by a negative test
result using the modified McMaster floatation technique. - is/are free of external parasites.
b. Cats,
i. an international veterinary certificate (within forty-eight (48) hours of
importation) is required and must attest that the cats(s): - has/have been continuously in the country of export for the
previous six (6) months or, if less than six (6) months of age,
since birth - was actively immunized against the following diseases:
a. Feline Leukemia,
b. Feline Rhinotracheitis,
c. Feline Calicivirus,
d. Feline Panleukopenia and
e. Feline Pneumonitis - is/are free of internal parasites as determined by a negative test
result using the modified McMaster floatation technique. - is/are free of external parasites.
B. If a country, zone, or compartment not free from rabies according to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) wishes to export:
a. Dogs,
i. an international veterinary certificate (within forty-eight (48) hours of importation) is required and must attest that the dog(s): - has/have been vaccinated against rabies by either:
a. one (1) year duration vaccine – the vaccine must have
been administered within not more than ten (10) months
and not less than one (1) month prior to importation; or
b. three (3) year duration vaccine – the vaccine must have
been administered within not more than thirty-four (34)
months and not less than one (1) month prior to
importation. - has/have been continuously in the country of export for the
previous six (6) months or, if less than six (6) months of age,
since birth - was actively immunized against the following diseases:
a. Distemper,
b. Hepatitis,
c. Leptospirosis,
d. Parvovirus,
e. Adenovirus, and
f. Coronavirus - is/are free of internal parasites as determined by a negative test
result using the modified McMaster floatation technique. - is/are free of external parasites.
b. Cats,
